Adding Molding a Mid Century Modern Headboard
Mid century modern headboard – Adding decorative molding to a standard headboard is just a way to dress up a bedroom decor. Decorative molding can be in the form of straight pieces of trim, such as picture frame molding conditions to form contours around the end. Or you can use the picture frame molding to form patterns in the middle of the headboard. You can also buy decorative trim in forms such as seashells, braided rope and hundreds of other designs, which you can use to dress up your headboard.
Measure your mid century modern headboard and draw a rough sketch of the gable on a paper. It is best to use graph paper since you can draw the gable to scale. For example, two squares on graph paper as one foot in the headboard. Determine the decorative molding to add the headboard and drawing the strip in place on your rough sketch. End molding with paint or stain of your choice. Measure the end and mark the exact locations for the installation of the profile.
Cut the strip at the angles required to achieve the desired setting on the headboard. The best tool to make cuts is a miter saw or a table saw with a miter gauge. Apply wood glue to the back of the molding in an “S” shape. Do not glue next to the edge of the casting or it will squeeze out of the headboard. Place the crown molding on the gable at the desired position and hold it in place until the glue dries. Continue to install molding on the mid century modern headboard of your predetermined pattern until you have installed all the casting.
